The longer version

Last updated

This is a piece that will always be in progress. Because as we evolve, we change how we explain ourselves. If we ever keep explaining ourselves the same way for too long, I believe that's stagnancy.

This is an attempt to write down who I am, what I do, and how I think, and I'm trying my best to keep it beyond titles.

I am Abdul Wajid. A young guy from Kerala. Putting stuff online under the name binzek. I don't run a startup, call myself Founder & CEO, post early-career lessons on LinkedIn, or vlog about being a young hustler on Instagram. Just a quick forenote.

I probably entered my career a little early, so my sense of responsibility and my thinking have drifted a bit from my peers. Over the years, I've gone through various roles and titles, though the one I've held most is programmer or software engineer. I once tried getting into college but dropped out. Anyway, I'll leave the titles to my resume, and I'm not gonna list my trajectory here. Interested people can read it here.

Technology, systems, and philosophy

From early on, I was exposed to technology and I was tinkering around it to feed my curiosity. Hence, I often get called a techie or geek. But honestly, I don't like it anymore. Rather, I see technology these days as a tool to solve problems, and a privilege to stay ahead in the race of civilization.

Various systems help me live my life. I find myself passively building systems around things. Sometimes it gets called perfectionism, but since it benefits me more than it costs, I keep it. Systems can mean a variety of things: it may be the order I keep in digital places, it may be the unified way I talk to people, it may be the way I process my thoughts, and the list goes on. Most of the time, it helps me put logic and rationale over emotions and gain more clarity.

I love thinking deeply and having long, deep conversations. "Philosophy" might be a fancy term to describe it, but I like the word anyway, and its literal meaning: "the love of wisdom." I always tend to seek more knowledge, across disciplines and without limits, and sometimes it spirals into full research rabbit holes. But I like the entire process. Also, I kinda like quotes and theories, so the word somehow works its way deep into my life.

Wealth and relationships

A thought I've had for years is that solutions to nearly all of our problems can be divided into either money-related or people-related. That's why I'm bringing it up here.

Since childhood, I've had a deep admiration for wealth and luxury, and it hasn't faded. Though many of my current paths don't point toward greater wealth, I've always held onto the goal of achieving real wealth and living well because of it. Even now, I try to earn as much as I can and spend most of it on convenience and comfort. But I make sure it's actually useful, not just indulgent.

Relationships are one pillar I try to continuously improve in my life. The people I know and stay in touch with are the greatest asset I have. Meeting people, being part of communities, building quality relationships, and keeping great people around, are all things I actively pursue and genuinely care about.

The greater meaning and purpose

Chasing big career breakthroughs, somewhere down the line, raised a lot of moral questions for me, like "what is this all for?" and "how long can I keep doing this?" I found myself pulling away from building more random software. Working in the social and impact sector also exposed me to things beyond technical skills, like empathy, care for people, doing good for society, sharing knowledge, and making a change.

So the big question of "what's next?" keeps pointing me toward the same answer: using my exposure to technology, my systems-oriented thinking, my thirst for knowledge, the people I know, and a broader economic lens, to actually impact people, spread knowledge, and make a change.

Don't get me wrong, this hunger for meaning hasn't made me care less about wealth. In my opinion, those are two beautiful things to carry together. For me, they're two journeys that can coexist well: one feeds the hunger for physical dreams, the other feeds the hunger of the soul.

I've been on this path for a while now, and I'll be documenting my thoughts and observations right here on this website.

So that's me in a nutshell. As I said, I like meeting people and having meaningful conversations and collaborations. If you're up for it, reach out. You'll find my contact details on the homepage.
